Class Action Park

LOL Talking to [info]vretallin about amusement parks made me remember Action Park. Anyone else have fond childhood memories of it? Somewhere I have pictures of friends and their injuries - many of us were injured on a church youth group outing there... and we all went back!

OMG you just reminded me of the "Traction Park" section of the WeirdNJ site. You'll love it:

LOL That's the site she showed me about the park. I remember hearing some news stories about the place. I can't believe it was open for as long as it was.

LOL! Oops, I didn't realize!

I went to Action Park a couple of times. I don't have any particularly harrowing tales, because even at a young age, I had a strong will to live, so I avoided virtually everything that was likely to put me in the hospital (Penfold v. Dangermouse was a very deliberate choice).

LOL you have a strong sense of self preservation. ;) That can be a very good thing.

Looks like you won the battle v. Dangerrmouse there. ;)

My parents' house is less than 15 miles away. We can see the lights from the ski slopes (the same place and mountain in the winter) from the house. The only time I actually went there for the "rides" - mom worked as a first responder during most of my formative years, we would not go there unless for a festival which was held in the valley on the other side of the road from the rides - was for senior skip day. Unfortunately for some of us, was also moving up day and we had most of the Student Counsel officers in our class. It was unsettling and hilarious to see the principal, three teachers and the guidance counselor, in suits and business attire combing the park that was already packed with bathing suit clad screaming children. Two girls fell asleep on chairs next to the giant wave pool and got sun poisoning, there was much skin left on the alpine slide (my favorite - nothing cooler than flying down a mountain with that kathunk, kathunk, kathunk under you) by some of the guys in my class. I remember how that death on the speedboats wrecked traffic in Warwick (ooh, it was bad).

I miss action park. I worked at the McDonald's on Rt17 in Chester (last stop before the Thruway back to NYC) and we could always tell who had been to the park. They always paid in wet dollars.

Water parks have come so far now. Now and here (unlike out East) all I have to do is go to the local community swimming pool to go on a crazy water slide!
